Sydney Opera House before sunrise

Sydney Opera House sunrise.

One of the most photogenic buildings on the planet, from whatever angle and at whatever time of the day you take a shot of it, it looks great..

This was taken at dawn, half an hour or so before sunrise, from the West end of the Circular Quay.

Colourful Houses in Cape Town

DSC_3020.jpg

A row of colourful houses in Cape Town, in the Bo-Kaap, the Malay quarter.

It took me a few visits at different times of the day to find the right light and shadows. this was taken around midday, with the minimal shadows and bright light falling overhead and bouncing off the walls on the other side of the street, like a reflector.

The bright colours and the compressed perspective of a long focal range give the view an abstract look. Almost like Lego bricks.

Beijing Opera House

I made the most of a rare clear sky to take a shot of the futuristic Beijing Opera  House building, officially called National Centre for the Performing Arts (or National Grand Theatre in Chinese 国家大剧院).

You enter the building by an hallway that goes underneath the artificial lake that surrounds it.

And it’s no surprise that the locals call it “The Egg”.
